Intrinsic Coaching

Listening to the correction of a coach is a necessary skill. Read about ways to hear coach's critique without losing your confidence.

The best basketball coaches are those who value the intrinsic opportunities of coaching, one of the greatest being the opportunity to help students develop to be more than they can be.

Too many coaches have their ego blinding them. They see students as tools for more wins and treat players in deference to those who can help their ego.

A great coach however sees each student with the hope of what he or she can become and works to help move and encourage this student to become that future vision.

Words reveal what kind of coach you are.
How do you speak about a player? Even more important, how do you think about a player? How negative are your thoughts and words? For example, consider this sentence, “She is a good player but she always quits toward the end of the game.” This may be a truth but it doesn’t have to be and your words are the nail in the coffin to make it so. You cannot achieve change by negative feedback. Your criticism can’t transform.

Instead, your great coaching can help transform a quitter into a finisher, a streak shooter into a consistent one. Do you know how to do this? If not, dedicate yourself to the curiosity to become this kind of coach. It is what NBC Camps is committed to.
