Rookie Varsity Academy (VA) in Spokane, Washington is an introduction to basketball and NBC Camps for kindergarten-3rd grade boys and girls. Sessions will focus on basic fundamentals, coordination, and having fun. Our goal is to teach a general understanding of the game and spark the love for basketball in a fun and encouraging environment.

GRADES K - 3:

CROWELL BASKETBALL: Each registered athlete in the Winter Session for Rookie VA will receive the Crowell Shooting Basketball. The basketball is a size 27.5, perfect for youth basketball players. The Crowell Pure Shooting Ball is designed with diamond shapes built onto the ball to teach players proper finger and hand placement. This is a high quality indoor/outdoor ball with important teaching points included on the ball. This is a great tool for training athletes to become great shooters.

Camp Director John Fazio

John has been involved with NBC Camps for 25 years and now serves as the Vice President. In addition to camps and clinics, he has 15+ years of experience conducting individual basketball training and has coached AAU, YMCA, grade school, high school tournament teams, three international travel teams (Italy 2006, UK 2013, Germany 2022), and college club basketball teams.

He has been USA Youth Basketball Gold Licensed since 2016. Coach "Faz" coached the Whitworth University Men's Club Team to regional championships in 2017 (Eugene, OR) and 2020 (Cheney, WA). He spearheaded the development of virtual training programs for NBC Camps and US Sports/Nike Camps during 2020-2021. He has also worked as a certified basketball official. Prior to joining NBC Camps, John earned a degree in communications from Central Washington University and worked as a television sports anchor at KVEW News in Kennewick, WA. He is married, has three children and lives in Spokane.
Camp Director Shawn Stetson

Shawn is the President of NBC Camps and has directed camps and clinics for over 20 years. He has overseen the expansion of NBC Camps into Canada as well as several other countries around the world. A former basketball player at the University of Calgary in Canada, Shawn is passionate about helping young athletes discover how to be all that God created them to be.
